Green Acres was established in the fall of 1977 by DAM Management. We began accepting homes in the spring of 1978 and the park was full by the end of summer that same year. The park was built on five acres of farm land and at that time we were only allowed to build twenty-four lots. When the community was built there was no city sewer in the area so we had to construct a sewer treatment facility with a sand mound. We used that until the spring of 1981 when the city sewer went through. The water is also public so we have no issues with utilities. The community is surrounded with farm land, and a look out the window would show a beautiful display of mountains and rolling, green fields. Most of the residents living in Green Acres have been there since it opened. The community has all underground utilities so there are no poles or wires to spoil the view. The lots are very large (100 X 150) and can take any size home built in today s market. All lots have a private two-car parking space, and the yards are big enough for outdoor activities so the need for a picnic area is not required. The community has always been a popular place to live because of the location and size of the lots.
Green Acres is located in Climate Zone 5. A COLD climate is defined as a region with between 5,400 and 9,000 heating degree days (65°F basis).
Knowing your area’s climate zone (as assigned by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America Program into one of eight zones), can help you predict your heating and cooling needs. Humidity and temperature can of course vary, even by county.
The Building America COLD climate zone corresponds to the portions of IECC zone 5 and 6.
