The surrounding area is home to numerous outdoor attractions. You’ll find wooded hiking trails in the Millbrook North and South Nature Preserves that are just one mile west of the resort. Additionally, you can kayak, canoe, fish, and hike at Buffalo Rock State Park, Starved Rock State Park, and Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area, three wilderness areas along the Illinois and Fox Rivers, respectively.

The Chicago area is known for architecture and you’ll find two stunners just four miles north of Jellystone Park of Chicago. The Farnsworth House and Farnsworth Gallery were constructed by Mies van der Rohe in 1951 and both feature striking modern architecture that has inspired countless design students.

For a day in the city, head 50 miles northeast to Chicago and take in the sights. It’s easy enough to spend a full day exploring the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium along Lake Michigan. But you might also want to visit the free Lincoln Park Zoo, stroll along Navy Pier, or take one of Chicago’s famous nighttime architecture cruises along the river. One thing is certain, the Windy City never gets boring!
